SHELBY — A lot of exciting things are happening in the Shelby community with some improvements being more visible than others.

As a nod to the city’s rich history, the Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) is selling metal icons that will be displayed on downtown light poles as a permanent banner honoring key elements of our community – agriculture, industry, recreation, and education.

Working directly with the City of Shelby and local businesses, Pivot Creative and Sherk Customs, the icons will be placed on every other light pole in Shelby’s historic district.

CIC Vice-Chair Cody Albert was the mastermind behind the icons. He explained that, as CIC navigates through the different improvement projects, it was important to add elements of art.

“This is a fun and subtle way to celebrate what makes our community so great.” Albert said.

Metal icons can be sponsored for $500 each. Donors will receive permanent recognition in Black Fork Commons Plaza, the CIC’s website, and social media platform.

“We are seeing great success with raising dollars for the Black Fork Park project,” said president Jake Penwell. “With all the excitement of things to come, many people have asked how they can support these efforts.

“The CIC wanted to provide an opportunity for residents, families, and small businesses to participate where it fit realistically into their budget.”

Only 28 icons will be sold. To sponsor an icon, visit the CIC’s website www.shelbycic.com or call 419-566-8838.
