FINDLAY — Claudia Pifher was rewarded for leading Buckeye Central back to the Sweet 16.
A junior sharpshooter, Pifher was selected the Northwest District Player of the Year in Division IV when the all-district teams were announced earlier this week.
Pifher, who averaged 19.2 points a game while connected on 43 percent of her 3-point field goal attempts (40-for-93) shared the award with Toledo Christian’s Madison Royal-Davis and Minster’s Ivy Wolf.
The Buckettes were a perfect 16-0 in Northern 10 Athletic Conference action and reached the Division IV regional tournament for the fifth consecutive season. Buckeye Central fell to Columbus Grove 47-38 in the regional semifinals.
Pifher was joined on the Division IV first team by BC teammate Taylor Ratliff. The senior averaged 12 points a game.
In Division I, Madison’s Chesney Davis earned a spot on the first team. A senior and integral part of Madison’s state-championship soccer team in the fall, Davis averaged 15.9 points a game for the Rams.
Shelby’s Olivia Baker earned a spot on the Division II first team after helping the Whippets to a share of the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference championship. Baker averaged 14 points a game as Shelby reached the district finals before falling to Bellevue.
In Division III, Crestview’s Kenedi Goon and Colonel Crawford’s Allison Teglovic were first-team picks. Goon averaged 14.9 points a game as the Cougars shared the Firelands Conference crown with Norwalk St. Paul. A senior, Teglovic averaged 14.5 points a game for the Eagles.
