PERRY TOWNSHIP – A Parma man was arrested and charged with second-degree felonious assault Friday after a shooting incident on I-71 in Richland County, according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol press release.
Matthew B. Ellison could face additional charges, the patrol stated, and is incarcerated at the Richland Count Jail. He is awaiting arraignment.
The Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol received a call just after 2 p.m. from the driver of a tractor-trailer. Josh Hursell, of Berlin Center, claimed he was fired at by a passing vehicle on I-71 near milepost 162 in Richland County. Hursell, who was not injured, stated the vehicle exited at State Route 97 when he lost sight of the suspect.
Responding troopers interviewed Hursell, and observed bullet holes in the cab and load on the trailer. During the investigation, the suspect and vehicle were positively identified and eventually located and taken into custody.
A passenger in the suspect vehicle was also identified, but no charges were filed against that individual. The passenger was released from the Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
