LUCAS — When a member of the community is feeling down, it’s hard to find a better support group than neighbors in Lucas.

On Thursday, the same evening Craig Maglott went in for his second round of chemotherapy in a year on his 55th birthday, naturally about 60 cars drove past his home on Leiter Road to show support and birthday wishes.

Maglott is battling acute myeloid leukemia.

“This took two days to come together,” said Heidi Maglott, Craig’s wife. “He was battling cancer last year on his birthday and again this year, so I wanted to get the word out.”

She put notice on a community board in downtown Lucas letting passersby know of the parade and sent messages to other friends.

“This is great,” said Craig, donning a face mask and waving to his friends. “It’s pretty cool.”

Those in the parade included family members and community members. Lucas Mayor Todd Hall was seen driving in the parade.

“This is good — awesome,” Heidi said waving to honking cars and fighting back tears. “I just appreciate his family and friends. It’s been a long year.”
