MANSFIELD — The Chill Downtown Ice Cream Parlor will be closing at the end of month, according to a post on the business’ Facebook page Thursday afternoon.

“It is with great regret that we inform all of our followers and great customers, that we will be closing The Chill permanently due to circumstances out of our control,” the post read. “Thank you to everyone who has supported us since we opened our doors in June of 2017!

“We enjoyed being a part of the community and serving you.”

Tara Beaire, who owns both The Chill and Tara’s Floral Expressions, confirmed the ice cream parlor will be closing on Jan 31. Beaire expressed disappointment at having to close The Chill, but said that the ice cream shop simply wasn’t making money.

“I thought it would be a good addition to our community. I thought it would be something that the kids would enjoy,” she said. “I regret having to do it, but I can’t keep going in the hole that’s not a smart business move. I’m trying to make smart business moves.”

The Chill is having a 50 percent off everything sale while supplies last.

Beaire has no plans to close Tara’s Floral Expressions, which is doing quite well, she said.

Beaire intends to continue her involvement in downtown events such as First Friday and the Shop Hop, noting that downtown Mansfield is an ideal place to run a small business.

“The flower shop is booming so it’s keeping me busy over here,” she said.

Beaire moved her floral shop from the West Park Shopping Center on Park Avenue to its current location, 46 W 4th Street, about three years ago.

“It is definitely the best move I could have made,” she said. “Everybody has been so supportive.”

Beaire owns the adjacent storefronts that house her two businesses. The future of The Chill’s storefront is yet to be determined.

“There’s a chance that we might lease that out to someone else or we may expand the flower line into that area, (or add) a candle line or gift line. I’m not sure yet,” she said.
