LEXINGTON — Entering the weekend, Lexington’s girls basketball team had won two games this season.

The Minutemen doubled that total in about 24 hours, topping visiting Madison, 44-36, on Saturday afternoon, one day after beating Norwalk, 54-33.

Senior Gabby Stover led Lexington with 24 points, hitting 10 of 19 field goal attempts, including three of seven triples. She also had six rebounds and four assists for the Minutemen, now 4-5 overall and 3-1 in the Ohio Cardinal Conference.

Stover is coming back this season from a badly injured knee.

“I’ve been mentally trying to get myself focused,” Stover said. “It’s been hard with my ACL getting back, but I felt good this game.”

Lexington led 15-14 after one quarter. The two teams combined for just six points in the second period with Lexington leading 19-16 at the half.

The Minutemen outscored the visitors 16-12 in the third quarter, building a 35-28 edge going into the final period, before outscoring Madison, 9-8, in the fourth.

“We ran out of gas and were struggling to get as many turnovers off of Lex as we were before,” Madison coach Brian Davis said.

The Rams (3-7, 0-3) were lead by Kari Eckenwiler and Leah Boggs, who both notched 14 points.

Lexington shot 31 percent from the field (17-55) and 25 percent (2-8) from the foul line. Madison connected on 39 percent (18-46) from the field and 36 percent (5-14) from the line.

Lexington had a 39-36 edge in rebounding, led by 10 from Josie Dahlinghaus. Leah Boggs had nine for Madison. The two teams combined for 37 turnovers, including 22 for Lexington.

Lexington next plays Jan. 9 at Mansfield Senior in another OCC game. Madison hosts Ashland on Jan. 4, also an OCC contest.
