This postcard view of Ankenytown was taken around 1920, before rural roads were paved. The view is looking south. What is now Ohio 95 (designated a few years after this) is the stretch going up the hill in the distance.

The 1871 Caldwell & Starr “Atlas of Knox County Ohio” originally included this map of Ankenytown.

The Old Ankenytown Cemetery is today known as the Ridenour Cemetery, and it has not survived the years in good condition. Though a stone isn’t visible, Ankenytown’s namesake, George Ankeny, is said to have been buried here.

Harvey Devoe, seen here with his wife Martha, kept a diary in 1861 that mentions a visit to Ankenytown, where he got his horse shod, most likely at Joseph Ankeny’s blacksmith shop. Throughout 2020, History Knox will be traveling with Harvey Devoe, exploring the year and people he recorded.
