MANSFIELD — Approximately three years after purchasing the former Weidle’s Meats at 749 Springmill St. in Mansfield, the meat market has reopened as a branch of the E.R. Boliantz Packing Company.

Bob Boliantz, of Ashland, intends to operate the Mansfield location in addition to his nearby location at 1535 Cleveland Ave. in Ashland

“He originally thought he could just update some stuff, but it’s an old building, so he got into things and now, it’s pretty much been gutted,” said his daughter Jessica Gordon.

E.R. Boliantz Packing Company opened in Ashland the late 1980’s, but Gordon explained that her family’s been in this industry for 90 years.

They celebrated this milestone and the new building with an open house Saturday, March 30.

“It was a long project,” Gordon said. “We’ve been working there since August 2018, but it was just about a week ago that the front of the building was done.“

The Boliantz family invited local farmers and their other existing customers to see the new space. More than 400 attended.

“It was fantastic. I think everyone enjoyed seeing the new building, and Certified Angus Beef (of Wooster), they cooked for everyone,” Gordon said.

The elder Boliantz became interested in the Mansfield meat market after realizing the Ashland one was running out of room. Together, the two locations provide enough space to process custom and wholesale orders. Neither has retail space.

“So when people buy cattle, we process it to their specifications,” Gordon said. “In Ashland, we’ll do the harvest, and hang the meat in large quarters. In Mansfield, we’ll break it down into the smaller cuts that will be in your freezer.”

She anticipates Mansfield will be the pick-up location for most customers now.

“My dad takes a lot of pride in what he does, and he was happy to have this as a nice place for people to work at and for customers to go pick up their meat,” Gordon said.
