ONTARIO — The Ontario Police Department has requested training space and an indoor shooting range at the former General Motors property, according to Ontario city councilman Nathan Sunderland.
At a Wednesday evening parks committee meeting, Sunderland explained the proposed training ground could be used by both the police department and fire department.
He said between five and 10 acres has been requested for the project. He believes 10 acres would certainly be “significant enough.”
“I was even thinking on the other side of the woods here, we could have a cut-through for the police department,” Sunderland said.
As of now, officers must travel for indoor shooting practice. Some travel to Columbus. The police department also has other equipment, such as a simulator.
“(Chief Tommy Hill) said the simulator is nice, but he’d like to have live fire going, too,” Sunderland said.
