ONTARIO — Dollar General is considering another Ontario location, according to the city’s zoning inspector, Adam Gongwer.
The store has completed preliminary site plan reviews for a property, located at 3489 Park Ave West, where a house was torn down last year.
The location would be in addition to its other Ontario location at 1660 W. 4th St. The potential store would likely employ between six and 10 employees.
“We have a Dollar General on the east side of Ontario, but they must feel the west side also has potential,” Gongwer said.
He noted the plans on the West side location are only preliminary. No zoning permits have been approved.
Angela Petkovic of Dollar General confirmed the business is currently in a “due diligence phase for a new location” that would be located off Park Avenue.
“This means we are reviewing the opportunity to add a new store in the area, but we have not committed to doing so just yet,” Petkovic said.
Based on the current timeline, she anticipates Dollar General will make a final decision by this summer.
“When choosing store locations, meeting customers’ needs is Dollar General’s top priority. The company looks for places where we can offer customers an easy and convenient shopping choice,” Petkovic said. “We know convenience is a major factor in our customers’ shopping decisions as we generally serve customers within a three- to five-mile radius, or 10-minute drive.
“We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns into consideration.”
