COLUMBUS — A Lexington graduate’s startup business, called TribeVest, has been selected as one of the top 50 startups by Startup Grind.
Last week, the startup community, powered by Google for Startups, included Travis Smith’s startup into the 2019 Global Class of Startups Program.
Additionally, TribeVest was a featured startup for the 2019 Startup Grind Global Conference and Pitch held Feb. 12 and 13 in Redwood City, California.
“TribeVest is honored and thrilled to be selected into this exclusive group,” Smith said. “The entire Startup Grind leadership and community are clearly on a mission to help take serious startups to the next level.”
TribeVest is a matchmaking and relationship management service for people who want to become investors. It provides a platform and the discipline to help like-minded people who share a common goal form a group and save together. Individuals can pool money with other people to put towards their dream goals, such as a boat, a vacation home, a business or a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
TribeVest began when Smith and his three brothers, Lincoln Smith, Kevin Danni and Ben Morkel founded TribeVest after working together to solve their ‘lack of capital’ problem by pooling their resources. Each saved $500 a month to invest in a joint venture.
Twelve years later, they still make monthly contributions towards their shared visions and have invested over $1 million in real estate, a race horse and other “dream investments.”
“It’s changed our lives and my family’s lives in ways we never expected,” Smith said.
