MANSFIELD — The Richland Academy Jazz Ensemble is recruiting members to fill its roster.

The jazz band is looking for high school, college and adult students to join the group. Rehearsals will begin Feb. 2, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

“We have roughly 1/3 of the band filled,” said Paul Martin, the ensemble’s director. “What we’re hoping for is the adult students can be mentors to the high schoolers. Growing up, I had that with older musicians and I wouldn’t trade that for the world.

“I think that can be a real plus — adults playing side-by-side.”

Interested persons can fill out a form then audition for Martin at the Richland Academy, Martin said.

“We can decide whether it is something they can fit into, but we do want to make it so people will want to be a part of it,” he said. “We don’t really want to say, ‘no, this isn’t for you.’ We just want to make sure it’s a good fit for them and not too much.”

Martin said those with some experience would be a good fit for the ensemble, adding everyone will be asked to play their own part.

Interested musicians can call 419-522-8224 or email Martin at PMartin@RichlandAcademy.com
