MANSFIELD — Ja’Quan Thompson has had an eye for fashion since he was young.
Now, the 25-year-old has his own shop and creative space in the basement of the Chase Building, 28 Park Avenue West, suite B101. The shop is called Blk X Crwn.
“I’ve always been inspired by stuff around me,” said Thompson, a Madison graduate. “I’ve always admired musicians’ fashion and followed the influences of pop culture brands.”
The store opened about a year ago, he said, but has been a four-year project. He hit his stride after he created sweatshirts with paint drizzled on them. He also cut them in different places.
“It got my name buzzing,” the owner of Blk X Crwn said. “I do each hoodie differently. They were hot in Columbus and Mansfield.”
Thompson said his main goal is to lift up the fashion of Mansfield.
“I want to bring a dope culture to this city and I want to shift people’s minds towards trends,” he said.
Inside his store is a creative space where shoes are made and a licensed barber can take appointments.
