Girard’s grip wasn’t secure until the clock expired, but when that happened it had a 53-48 win over Licking Valley during this Division IV Ohio boys high school football state semifinal game

The clock was the only thing that stopped the Indians, who enjoyed the upper hand in a 14-13 final quarter, too. The Indians broke in front at the beginning of the fourth period with a 40-34 lead over the Panthers.

Licking Valley climbed on top in the first half and stayed there with a 34-20 lead at intermission.

The start wasn’t the problem for the Panthers, who began with a 20-13 edge over the Indians through the first quarter. Licking Valley finished the season 10-4.

Girard takes a 13-1 record into the state championship game against undefeated Cincinnati Wyoming (14-0) in next week’s state title tilt. The Cowboys beat St. Marys 35-14 in the other state semifinal.
