Studio 19, on 19 E 4th St in downtown Mansfield, has been a premiere salon in the downtown area for over two decades. Friday, October 19 they celebrated new ownership, staff, services and a remodeled facility with a grand re-opening and ribbon cutting event.

In February, Melissa Cary took ownership of Studio 19 and became a third-generation small business owner in her family.

“As someone who was raised and brought up around family businesses, it is definitely something I have a unique appreciation for and the desire to own my own business grew as I got older,” said Cary.

“My grandfather owned and operated State Farm Insurance and retired after 40 years, I worked for my mother (Beth Delaney) at Spherion Staffing for 13 years, and my father (Mark Delaney) is the founder and owner of Mid-Ohio Limousine. I feel very fortunate for the lifetime of love and support I have received from my family over the years.”

Shortly after taking ownership of Studio 19, Cary surveyed her staff and clients, asking them what they would want to see changed going forward. Updating the salon was among the top responses.

“I knew I needed to bring new life to the salon, but wanted to keep much of the same Studio 19 look and keep the history intact,” said Cary. “I knew immediately what direction we should go. A fun, beautiful and fresh Boho theme that would provide our clients with a new, energized environment they deserve.”

Aside from offering the traditional full-service hair, makeup and manicure/pedicure menu, Studio 19 is a proud provider of Aveda products (a staple of the salon), along with Redken, Paul Mitchell and Pureology. Most recently they introduced a full line of Pevonia spa and treatment facials and Minkys eyelash extensions.

But according to Cary, what truly sets Studio 19 apart is service and stylists.

“I’m a huge believer in making everyone feel like they matter so our mindset is always making sure that every client that walks through our doors is listened to, appreciated and receives the service they deserve,” said Cary. “We offer complimentary beverages and free consultations for first-time visitors and our friendly, well-educated stylists excel at creating positive experiences.”

Empowering stylists to achieve growth in their field of work has historically been a top priority of Studio 19 and Cary also bears a passion for investing in the continued education of her staff.

“Studio 19 was the first to implement the apprenticeship education program to new stylists coming out of school and has been a huge asset to the success of many stylists working in our community today, some of which have come to own their own salons,” said Cary.

One of the commitments I have made to my team when I took over was to invest in their continued education and provide classes, as this industry is constantly changing and improving. Since that time I have been able to provide 5 continuing education classes for my team along with sponsoring various events within our community.”

As the ribbon was cut by the Richland Area Chamber of Commerce on Friday, celebrating another successful small business in downtown Mansfield, Cary felt excited about being in the center of a growing community and incredibly grateful for the success that preceded her.

“There is something to be said about the fact that Studio 19 has been downtown for over 20 years and is still considered the premiere salon in the area. I believe our team is one of the best around. It is truly remarkable everyday that I continue to learn from them and vice versa.”

If you have never visited Studio 19, they are currently offering 20% to any new clients who book a service between October 19-27. Additionally, anyone that spends $50 or more in services or retail will be entered to win a Pureology gift basket valued at $305.
