SHELBY – The Shelby Area Democratic Club has finalized plans for its 11th annual Truman-Kennedy Society Breakfast. The event will take place on Saturday, May 19 at 9 a.m. The location will be the social rooms at First United Church of Christ, 23 Church Street, Shelby.

Congressional candidate Ken Harbaugh will be the event’s keynote speaker. He’s running for the U.S. House of Representatives in the sprawling 7th District which includes Shelby, Plymouth, Shiloh, and all or parts of 10 counties across northeastern Ohio.

“Ken Harbaugh has spent a lifetime in service to his country. As a pilot in the United States Navy, he led reconnaissance missions in the Middle East and off the North Korean coast. Ken is also a family man: a loyal husband and a devoted father,” stated club president Garland John Gates. “It’s a particular honor for our club to host Mr. Harbaugh.”

During the breakfast gathering, the society will present two awards. The first is the “Give ‘Em Hell” Award, which reminds one of the dogged truthfulness of Pres. Harry S. Truman. The Profiles in Courage Award, reminiscent of Pres. John Kennedy’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book, goes to someone who holds to his or her convictions despite the ramifications.

Reservations are strongly suggested for the breakfast. A reservation form is available by going online at www.ShelbyAreaDems.blogspot.com or by calling 419-347-3337. All Democrats and persons of good will are invited to attend.
