SHELBY — The arena at Pioneer Career and Technology Center was packed with excited Pioneer students and proud family members Thursday for the annual Pioneer Honors Night.
During the event students were recognized for achieving, performing and succeeding at extraordinary levels.
Scholarships were awarded to many students for continuing education with the total amount over $3.2 million. Pioneer also announced over 400 special awards including the Director’s Attitude Awards and Citizenship Awards. Over 250 Pioneer students were honored.
A major highlight of the evening was the announcement of this year’s Byron H. Carmean Character, Dedication and Service Award winner, Autumn Parr, a senior from Lexington High School. Parr has excelled in Pioneer’s Dental Assisting program with instructor Melissa Myers.
The Carmean Award is the highest award given to a Pioneer student and was created to recognize students with outstanding qualities of character, personal dedication and service to education.
In addition to Parr’s classroom success, she is a very active community volunteer. At Pioneer Parr has been involved with the Red Cross Blood Drives, Student Council, GEM Group and HOSA (Future Health Professionals) as Vice President, National Qualifying Competitor and State Voting Delegate.
This year’s other deserving nominees for the Carmean Award includes seniors:

· Rebecca Gregg, Ontario High School, Media Communications
· Sadie Kurtzman, Ontario High School, Performing Arts
· Hannah Quibell, Northmor High School, Dental Assisting
