MANSFIELD — Families, administrators and teachers filled the cafeteria at Mansfield Senior High School to celebrate education Thursday evening.
The fourth annual celebration, created by the Mansfield Schools Education Association (MSEA) helps to bring a focus to education for both students and the schools.
“What we did as a union is we got a building local effective grant from the Ohio Education Association. What we do is we turn it around and spend it on the community,” MSEA President Pam Jones said. “We want to show our support for the kids and the parents and to bring them in here and let them all mingle.”
Inside the cafeteria were activities for students to do. Student choirs sang on a stage, and each school was represented with a poster or activity.
“It’s a neat thing to get everybody together,” Jones said. “We give them free books. Everybody gets a race car (toy) tonight. They get free food and everyone has fun.”
Mark Manley, the district’s director of personnel, said it’s great for students to be showcased in front of such a large, community audience.
“Every school within the district is represented — either by performance or by activity,” he said. “When you think about celebrating education, you think about celebrating parents or kids. I think that means community and that’s what it means to me.”
