LEXINGTON – Lexington’s former grocery store will soon reopen as “Main Street Market.”

The owner of Bellville’s Stoodts Market, Jason Potes intends to expand his grocery store business by opening the former Geyer’s Fresh Foods, 280 E. Main St., in May or “as soon as possible.”

Potes announced late last week that JACS Fresh Foods LLC., doing business as Stoodt’s Market, has entered a lease agreement with the intention of operating a retail grocery store.

“We are beyond excited to be able to bring a full-service grocery store back to the fine citizens of Lexington and surrounding areas,” Potes said in a press release. “We are committed to providing a shopping experience that exceeds their expectations.”

Offerings will include produce, deli, bakery, meat, grocery, frozen, dairy, drug and general merchandise, natural and organic foods, floral, beer and wine. It will provide services like lottery, gift cards, fax and money services, catering, online shopping and ordering, grocery shipping and grocery delivery up to a 20-mile radius.

“We appreciate everyone that has been sharing in our excitement while our planning and negotiation process has come to fruition,” Potes said.

The business is awaiting final government approvals.

“We are thrilled that Lexington shoppers will again have an avenue to keep their hard-earned dollars in their local economy,” he said. “We cannot wait to see you and serve you.”

In January 2016, Potes took ownership of Stoodt’s Market in Bellville, where he calls himself the “owner and head bagger.” He took over the business when former owners Bernie and Sharron Hollar retired.

Geyer’s closed its Lexington location in 2017. The building is owned by Dental Laboratory Specialists, Inc., according to Potes.
