Donald Gene Hoard Sr.

Donald Gene Hoard Sr., 73, passed this life on Sunday, April 15, 2018 in Ohio Health MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Hoard was born on Wednesday, March 7, 1945 to the late Henry and Reola (Burrell) Hoard in Mansfield and was a life resident. Donald was a member of the Mansfield Senior High School graduating class of 1964.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the US Army from June 1966-June 1968. Upon returning to from the service Donald was employed with Mansfield Tire Company until it closed then then became employed with the Ohio State Reformatory for 30 years before retiring.

He enjoyed cooking on the grill, watching football and basketball games on TV, and discussing politics and the economy.

Donald is survived by his son: Donald Hoard Jr., of Woodridge, Virginia, fiancé Lois Lawrence, of Mansfield; brother Rev. Dr. Richard L. (Karen) Hoard, of Powder Springs, Georgia; nieces and nephew: LaTanya Hoard, of Louisville, Kentucky, Alicia Thomas, of Stockbridge, Georgia, Angela Hoard-Ross, of Huntersville, North Carolina, and Curtis Hoard, of San Jose, California; numerous great nieces and nephews; his fiance’s children Janice and Judy Lawrence, of Mansfield, Jerry (Patricia) Lawrence, of Athens, Georgia, and Kathy Lawrence, of Columbus; special friends: Jetney Powell, Leo (Pam) Gordon, Joe Miner, and Raspberry; his former wife with whom he remained friends: Brenda Irby, of Mansfield.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Hoard-Landers, brother, John Hoard, and aunt, Mattie Carpenter.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Services by his brother, the Rev. Dr. Richard Hoard. Friends may call at the chapel one hour prior to the funeral service beginning at 10 a.m. Military services will be conducted on site at the close of the funeral service by the Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
