Take a drive down Main Street in Bellville today and the sights are remarkably, and rather comfortingly, similar to what you might have seen if you took that same drive 100 years ago.

The hitching rails are gone now, as you might expect; but if you study these two examples of then and now — the hand-colored postcard from 1910 and the brilliant morning sun version from our time — you’ll see that the main difference is found on the side of the tallest building: in 100 years Bellville made the switch from Bull Durham to Mail Pouch tobacco.
