GALION — Two people were arrested in Galion Tuesday when a joint operation of Crawford and Richland County law enforcement agencies raided a residence at 220 1/2 W. Atwood St.

Michael Shaw, 36, and Joey Horton, 45, both of the residence, were charged with permitting drug abuse and possession of drugs, according to Galion Police Chief Brian Saterfield. Both people were arrested and transported to the Crawford County Jail.

The case remains under investigation and will be presented to the Crawford County Prosecutor for filing of formal charges and any additional applicable charges.

Saterfield said in a press release that members of the Galion Police Department received information of a possible meth lab being operated at 220 ½ W. Atwood St.

“The investigation began with a disturbance call shortly after 4 a.m. on Feb. 20,” Saterfield stated. “Officers and detectives were able to obtain a search warrant based upon the investigation.”

The Crawford County Special Response Team was activated for the search warrant entry, the chief stated. Assistance was received from the METRICH Drug Task Force for the purpose of possible hazardous material evidence collection and preservation on this case.

“Upon conducting the search warrant, officers seized numerous articles of drug paraphernalia and evidence of possible manufacturing of methamphetamine,” Saterfield said. “There was no evidence of a large scale drug manufacturing operation at the residence.”
