BELLVILLE — Jared Mansfield Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, held its February meeting at the Ohio Genealogical Society (OGS) in Bellville on Friday.
Regent Joyce Vanatter led the opening ritual. Pat Jennings, chaplain, gave the opening prayer. Regent Joyce Vanatter led the Pledge of Allegiance and The American Creed. The Regent welcomed members and guests.
Angela Riley from Harmony House presented a program about the homeless shelter and what all they do for 500 to 700 men, women and children in Richland County that use their services each year. The local DAR members have collected 400 items that were donated to Harmony House today.
The chapter members reported volunteer hours to National Service to America for the year 2017 totaling 5,919 hours. This is more than double the hours entered for the previous year.
Chaplain Pat Jennings gave out the following certificates: Margaret Bayer Stoodt – a 30 year member, Nancy Rummel Niswander and Jean Rummel Pohr both 10 year members.
Pat James-Hasser, DAR Service for Veterans Chair, said that on Feb. 13, 2018 a “Salute to the Military” Carnival will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mansfield VA Outpatient Clinic. Several members will be helping at this event and more members are welcome to attend.
The chapter gave a donation towards the Catalyst for Living Telethon for Richland County to be held Saturday, Feb 3.
Members brought family new and old heirlooms to the meeting and they shared many interesting and funny family stories and items.
The Hostess Committee was recognized and thanked. Announcements were made and the meeting was adjourned.
The next DAR meeting will be held Mar. 2, 2018 at 1 p.m. at OGS. The guest speaker will be Scott Schaut from the Mansfield Memorial Museum speaking on “Pioneer Women of Richland County.”
The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.
