Christopher “CT” LaRon Thompson, 47, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018 in his home after a sudden illness.
Mr. Thompson was born on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1970 in Los Angeles, California moving to Mansfield as an infant. Chris was a member of the Malabar High School graduating class of 1988. While attending Malabar “CT” as he was called by his friends was a member of the basketball team that went to state playing in the final four for the state championship, but unfortunately Malabar lost to Portsmouth.
After graduation Chris received a full athletic scholarship to Walsh College in Canton for a year returning home to attend the local branch of the Ohio State University.
Chris worked with juvenile children for a number of years at one of our local facilities. For the past three years Chris had been employed by Warren Rupp Industries.
Chris enjoyed hanging out with his friends, music, basketball, landscaping, and most of all his family.
Chris is survived by his parents: Barbara (Thompson) and Dwight McCollom, Mansfield; sister: Tamieka McCollom, Mansfield; nephew and niece: D’Andre and Jayliecia “Jay” McCollom and her boyfriend Ryan Payne, Mansfield; great nephew: Rio Payne, Mansfield; four aunts: Willie Bea Williams, St. Louis, Missouri, Wanda Thompson, Bakersville, California, Bennie Allen, Cedar Hill, Texas, and Linda Thompson, Godfrey, Illinois; two uncles: Andrew (Merlin) Thompson, Ashtabula, and Maurice (Marjorie) Thompson, LaQuinta, California; two special cousins: Rhonda Thompson, Painesville, and Corey Thompson, Godfrey; special friends: Fred Todd, Benny Hunt, Keith Corbin, Baron Johnson, Rondre McCruter, Darrel McRae, Sabestian Pryor, Reggie Pender, and numerous cousins and friends.
Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents Erma and Andrew Thompson and Beulah McCollom, and aunt Yvonne Haywood.
Celebration of life service will be held Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 in the Oasis Of Love Church at noon by Elder Henry Bradley Sr. of Community Temple COGIC. Friends may call at the church beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
