ASHLAND — Firelands Electric Cooperative People Fund has approved a grant in the amount of $875.40 to Hospice of North Central Ohio (HNCO).

The grant will be used to purchase 12 pulse oximeters for nurses to use with hospice and palliative patients.

Pulse oximeters monitor oxygen saturation levels with little or no discomfort to the patient.

“HNCO has long enjoyed a cordial relationship and benefitted from the generous support of Firelands Electric Cooperative People Fund,” said HNCO Chief Development Officer Ralph Tomassi. “Without the support of charitable gifts and grants, our non-profit hospice would not be able to provide patients with the margin of excellence we do when delivering end-of- life care.”

The mission of Firelands Electric Cooperative People Fund is to accumulate and disburse funds for charitable purposes in Firelands Electric’s service area. The program receives its funding from members who allow their bills to be rounded up each month to the next whole dollar and placed in a charitable trust fund.

All funds are distributed to qualifying local organizations.

Headquartered at 1050 Dauch Drive in Ashland, Hospice of North Central Ohio continues to serve more than 200 patients daily in Ashland, Crawford, Huron, Knox, Morrow, and Richland counties with palliative and hospice services. Additionally, free continuous bereavement services are provided for hundreds of families of hospice patients and to anyone in the community experiencing grief.

Call 800-952-2207 for more information. HNCO is a partner agency of United Way of Ashland County.
