Joyce M. Weidig, 83, of Mansfield passed away early morning on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 at Wedgewood Estates.

She was born on Sept. 17, 1934 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to John and Winnie (Quinn) Mulherin.

A devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her grandchildren. Joyce’s family came to Ohio to start the Dairy Queen 70 years ago. Joyce was a graduate of St. Peter’s High School. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and in her younger years was instrumental in helping build Resurrection Parish.

She was president of the Lexington Athletic Boosters and Altrusa. A fun loving woman who enjoyed a 7 & 7 and having a good time. She loved Kentucky Derby parties, tailgating, hosting parties and never shied away from placing a bet.

She enjoyed golfing and was the Richland County Women’s Golf Association Champion of 1960, and she took great pride in this accomplishment. She was a fan of Notre Dame, enjoyed St. Patrick’s Day, playing cards, cooking, and baking especially Christmas cookies.

She is survived by her children, Kathy (Mike Mansperger) Weidig, of Galion, and Mark (Maribeth) Weidig, of Avon; and grandchildren, Ryan Dinkel, Spencer, Emily and Kate Weidig. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Charles “J.C.” Weidig; son, Greg Weidig; and brothers, Jed (Mary) Mulherin and Mick Mulherin.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road. A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 104 West First Street Mansfield, Ohio.
