MANSFIELD — There’s a ton of great things going on in the music world of Mansfield, and in Richland County as a whole.
And with Christmas right around the corner, community members have the opportunity to support local musicians. Let’s be honest, Taylor Swift and Kanye West have enough money.
Below are some of the aforementioned quality local artists and where you can find their music.
1. AlliCat
Hip Hop-Rap artist, Independent Musician
If you are looking for some woman-empowerment or simply motivation to get through your day, look no further than AlliCat. Once known as Hawaii’s Homegirl, the Mansfield native is back and living in the south side of her hometown.

2. Brady Jacquin
Folk artist, Independent Musician
Brady Jacquin’s finger-picking style and vocals will put you in a trance if you let them. His songs tell of brilliantly-crafted stories inspired by mythical stories and creatures.

3. Chase Beaire
Folk/Rock artist, Independent Musician
Chase Beaire is a great singer and a fantastic songwriter. His folk/rock music is sure to make your feet tap. Chase has big plans for his future, why not help him get there?

4. Chico’s Brother
Avant-ghetto folk musician, Independent artist
One of the more popular local musicians, Chico’s Brother plays an auto-harp which gets attention for both the uniqueness of look and the sound it makes. Chico’s Brother, a major advocate for the LGBTQ community, hosts a music venue called La Luna as well.

5. Narrow/Arrow
Math Rock band, Other People Records
Narrow/Arrow, perhaps the most established band residing in Mansfield, has put out a new album this year: ClaustrOHphobia. Signed to the record label “Other People Records,” why not support a local professional band?

6. Noah Jones
Folk/singer-songwriter, Independent Musician
Noah Jones (yes, me, and not to be confused with Norah Jones) is a local folk singer/song writer who has made several appearances around town. I won the inaugural Mansfield Playhouse “Who’s Got Talent. Here’s a shameless plug to #buymyalbum!

7. Oddepoxy
Alternative rock band, independent band
Oddepoxy is an Alternative rock group known for their ability to mash genres together. The band, made up of childhood friends, clearly have something cool going on.

8. Ricky Mitchell
Folk/pop, Independent Musician.
Ricky Mitchell, while known to play around the county regularly at bars, also has records out of his own music. The Shelby resident is soon to publish a new record, so it may be good to hear his current stuff before getting hooked on ‘dat new-new.’

9. Rico Che
Jazzy folk artist, Independent Musician
Rico Che entered the Mansfield music scene by storm when she began performing regularly at a myriad of Richland County music venues. One of the more unique voices combining her love of jazz and folk musicians, she has created a beautiful, down-to-earth feel in her debut EP, “Falling Thru the Cracks of Earth.”

10. Sovroncourt
Lo-fi musician, Wildkindess Records
Sovroncourt of WildKindess Recordings, is a Lo-fi musician, reflecting a cultural phenomena that seems to be trending in the independent music realm today. Sovroncourt put it plainly when he said, “Lo-fi leaves the listener thinking ‘I could do that’ because of its inherent accessibility.”

11. Taj Torrence
Rap artist, PAK Recordings
Taj Torrence is, in many ways, Mansfield music. In his new album, “Songs From the Top Floor,” he addresses social issues and his struggles. Definitely an album worthy of a click below.

12. The Trio Feat. Al Jenkins
ElectroJazz, Independent band
The Trio are Mansfield’s best kept secret. Playing an unlikely mash of Electro-jazz and adding their brother, Al Jenkins, for a side dosage of rap will make you realize they’ve made jazz cool again.

13. The Touch
Punk Rock, Ooze Records
The Touch can be summed up with a phrase: Mahoney’s band. And anyone who knows the front man can expect the music to replicate his attitude. The Touch is crude, energetic and overall fantastic.

14. Birds Cage
Garage Rock, Independent
The band let their songs out the cage with a Dec. 5 live demo. Their four track EP shows off the band’s two members. “One guy plays guitar and does vocals while the other guy plays drums.”

15. Pool Boy
Punk Rock, Independent
The pool is not just for summer anymore. Pool Boy, released their 5-song album in July, with songs about Mansfield, Yosemite and Iceland.
