GALION – The Galion City School District has announced Melisa Watters as the new principal at its Primary School.

Watters is a Madison graduate and was a six-time state champion swimmer for the Rams in the early 1990s. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan, and received her Master of Education in Educational Administration from Ashland University.

“It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that we move into a new year at Galion Primary,” Watters said. “I am honored to work alongside an extremely dedicated staff and an amazing community to provide the best possible education for our students.”

Watters began her career after college at Western Elementary School in Lexington, where she taught third and fourth grade. As a teacher, she served on several district-level leadership committees during her 15 years in the district.

“My goal as building principal is to provide the leadership that will create a safe and nurturing learning environment for all stakeholders,” said Watters. “I strongly believe in taking the time to know students individually in order to help them reach their true potential.”

Most recently, Mrs. Watters served at the Elementary School Principal in Crestline. During her four years at Crestline, she helped the district’s Preschool program earn the 5-star Step Up to Quality status and increased family engagement and involvement by offering more afterschool family activities, just to name a few.

“We are excited to welcome Mrs. Watters to the Tiger Family,” said Superintendent Jim Grubbs. “Melisa brings a wealth of knowledge and successful educational experience to our district, and I’m excited to see how she works with our staff, students and families to continue the Primary School’s positive growth.”

The first day of school for all Galion students and staff is Monday, Aug. 21. The Primary School Open House will begin at 4:00 p.m. for preschool and kindergarten students, and continue from 4:45 to 6 p.m. for first and second grade students Thursday, Aug. 17.

Those with back-to-school questions for the Primary School are encouraged to call the building office at 419-468-4010.
