ASHLAND – Pies, prizes and, of course, a lot of corn will be on the menu for the 8th Annual Community Corn Roast fundraiser for Hospice of North Central Ohio.

With a full menu, live entertainment, a pie auction, prize raffles and events for kids, the annual event is planned for Saturday, Aug. 19, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ashland County Fairgrounds.

This year’s menu will include pulled pork sandwiches, watermelon, freshly roasted sweet corn and more.

Live music will be provided by Ashland’s own Tom’s Kitchen Table, a four-man group playing music ranging from country to rock.

Events for kids will include the Ashland University women’s basketball team leading old-fashioned races and games, a climbing wall, face painting and a critter presentation by Gorman Nature Center. A fire truck and other emergency vehicles will be on display.

There is no set price for the meal but there is a $5 per person suggested minimum donation. The corn roast also will feature the traditional live pie auction at 5:30 pm, raffles for prizes and a 50/50 drawing. This year a corn eating contest may be added, just for fun.

“This event is about community. At Hospice of North Central Ohio, we are privileged to care for our mothers, fathers, siblings, children, neighbors and friends,” said Hospice Marketing Coordinator Lanie Roberts. “The people in our community are important to us. We hope this event allows folks to enjoy good company and food, sing along with songs they love, watch children play, and just slow down enough to enjoy some time together. And of course, raising funds to invest into the hundreds of lives is important, too.”

Raffle tickets will sell for $5 each or six for $25. Ticket holders need not be present to win. Cash donations will be collected at the door, and credit cards will be accepted for raffle sales, the pie auction and donations.
