Jerry Allen Neer

Jerry Allen Neer, 77, of rural Ashland, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away Wednesday morning, July 26, 2017 at his home.

He was born on May 16, 1940 in Mansfield and was the son of the late Karl S. and Fern M. (Lambright) Neer.

Jerry was a 1958 graduate of Union High School and a veteran of the Air National Guard 164th Fighter Tactical Squadron. He was a former long-time Ashland resident where he worked for nine years with F.E. Myers before retiring from Timken Company after completing 34 years of service.

Jerry was a member of Ashland Grace Brethren Church serving on the Building and Grounds and Hospitality Commissions while also working as a sound technician.

He was a member of the Paradise Golf Course as well as R/C Modelers Cloud Chasers. Jerry enjoyed restoring cars, wood-working, furniture-building, golfing, fishing, vacationing with family and friends, RV-ing, and Cleveland sports. He and Nancy also enjoyed wintering in Gulf Shores, Alabama. 

Jerry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy L. Evans Neer, three children: Douglas (Denise) Neer, of Galion, Karla (Kent) Denlinger, of Winona Lake, Indiana, and Gregory (Kimberly) Neer, of Kalamazoo, Michigan; 14 grandchildren: Benjamin (Kim) Neer, of Galion, Lindsay (Josh) Harris, of Cardington, Hannah Carr, of Galion, Caleb (Caitlyn) Neer, of Galion, Jeremiah (Kayla) Neer, USAF, of Germany, Allyssa (Ryan) Hostetler, of Galion, Samuel Neer, of Galion, Jakob Neer, U.S. Army, of Oklahoma, Kate (Zachary) Arington, of Cincinnati; Kal (Stephanie) Denlinger, of Warsaw, Indiana, Keegan Neer, Kade Neer, Hudson Neer and Rhetton Neer, all of Kalamazoo, Michigan; five great-grandchildren: Riley Neer, Brady Carr, Lilli Hostetler, Finlay Neer, Daxton Harris, and three more on the way; one brother: William (Irmogene) Neer, one brother-in-law: Bernard (Donna) Wolf, and one sister-in-law: Ruth Ann Griebling.

Jerry was preceded in death by both parents, one brother: James K. Neer; and three sisters: Shirley Wolf, Phyllis Blamer Wattle and Nancy Evans Ault. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, July 29 at 11 a.m. in Grace Brethren Church, 1144 W. Main, Ashland with Pastor Dan Allen and Pastor Norm Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery, rural Mansfield. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, July 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Grace Brethren Church.
