SHELBY – More administrative changes are coming to Shelby Middle School this fall with the hiring of a new assistant principal.
The Shelby Board of Education unanimously approved Andrew McFarland as the new assistant principal at Shelby Middle School in a special Board of Education meeting on Thursday. McFarland joins the staff on a three-year contract.
The move comes less than two weeks after the resignation of Jeff Eichorn as Shelby Middle School’s principal to take a position as Lexington High School’s assistant principal.
“We’re not allowing any moss to grow under our feet,” said Superintendent Tim Tarvin. “We conducted interviews with a number of individuals, and at the end of the day Andrew McFarland was our unanimous decision to be the next assistant principal at the middle school.”
Filling Eichorn’s position as principal of Shelby Middle School is former assistant principal Barb Green, who served as Shelby Middle School’s assistant principal for the past two years. Green was approved for a three-year contract as the middle school principal at Shelby’s June 26 meeting.
McFarland now fills Green’s open position as assistant principal of Shelby Middle School. According to Tarvin, the district started accepting applications for the position on June 27.
“I look forward to the opportunity, and being from the area I know a lot about the Shelby traditions,” McFarland said. “I’m excited to be a part of it. I’m confident things are going to go well.”
McFarland is a graduate of Madison Comprehensive High School, where he then went on to graduate from Heidelberg University. He was first a teacher then the athletic director at Plymouth High School before coming to Shelby.
“He comes to us with excellent recommendations,” Tarvin said. “We really believe that Mrs. Green and Mr. McFarland will do fantastic things together at the middle school.”
