James L. Mock passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at his Johnsville home following a sudden illness. He was 78.
He was born Nov. 22, 1938 in Columbus to parents Leonard and Jane (Leavell) Mock and was later adopted by Roland Jaynes. He graduated from Johnsville High School with the class of 1956.
Jim joined the U.S. Marine Corps after graduation. In 1966 he volunteered for Vietnam. On Dec. 23, 1963 he married Hatsuko Kamizato in Okinawa and they enjoyed 47 years together until she passed away in 2010.
Jim was a welder by trade and was proud of his work. He had a deep friendship with the Amish community and enjoyed transporting them. He will be remembered as an avid reader and a master storyteller with equal parts good memory and big imagination.
He is survived by his children (and spouses) Etsuko and Tony Bailey, of Pitts, Georgia, Michiko Fidler, of Mansfield, Sharon Kay and Kenji Ariishi, of Columbus, Indiana; grandchildren Sanya, Ryan, Maranda, John, Sayre, and Kaito; four great grandchildren; siblings Martha Steelesmith, of New Albany, David and Judy Mock, of Crestline, and Pat and Forest Foust, of Lexington; along with nieces and nephews.
In addition to his loving wife Hatsuko, Jim was preceded in death by daughter Lisa Marie Mock, his parents, and a nephew Michael Mock.
Friends may call Monday, July 3, 2017 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Karen Wagenhals officiating and burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.
