Ronald O. “Ron” Smith, 81, of Galion, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

He was born June 4, 1935 in Galion and was the son of Clarence and Cynthia (Ramsey) Smith. Ron is survived by the love of his life for 60 years, Eula “Dude” (Hall) Smith whom he married on Sept. 28, 1956. 

He served his country in the United States Army Reserves for eight years and retired after 46 years in the Maintenance Department at Galion Hospital. Ron attended Gospel Baptist Church, Galion and you could see him often taking walks with his dog Lilly at Fairview Cemetery. Ron and Lilly also enjoyed taking long naps together.

Although he had no children, he is survived by many nieces and nephews including Steve Hall and Tammy Deel, both of Galion, with whom he loved and treated as his very own. Also, Shawn Conley, Aaron Hall and Kristi Sirlouis, all of Akron, Debbie Lauffenburger, of Virginia, and Vicki Hall, of Tennessee; grandnieces Anna Hall, Leah Hall, Vanessa Deel and Olivia Deel; sisters-in-law Joyce Conley, of Ontario, and Diane Hall, of Galion; brother-in-law Denton Atkinson, of Galion and his dog Lilly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Edith Stalter and a brother, Robert Smith. 

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 2 with Rev. Loyd Caudill officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
