MANSFIELD — Five-year-old Sophia Fisher loves painting her toenails, usually pink, blue or a combination of the two.

Her mother, Codi Fisher, 30, wanted to find a nail salon to hold Sophia’s birthday party, but she struggled to find something local and affordable.

She discussed the problem with her husband, Nathan Fisher, 31, and that’s when they decided to open Salon Sorellina, a kid-friendly, full-service salon that offers birthday parties on the weekends. The couple recently relocated the salon to 821 Lexington Ave.

“We started off looking for her (Sophia’s) birthday party and realized how much of an inconvenience it would be to go to Columbus, so I just went to him (Nathan) and said what if we open up a little girl’s salon.”

Codi first pitched the idea to Salon Vivace, and it became known as “Sorellina by Salon Vivace.” The parties were held on weekends in a space above Salon Vivace, located at 18 W. 4th St.

But as its popularity grew, she wanted the shop to have more space.

“We decided that it doesn’t make sense for me to work somewhere else all week, when I can work at my own salon,” Codi said.

She was driving along Lexington Avenue one day when she spotted a vacant building.

“I looked through the windows and thought ‘I can do this,’” she said. “And it just happened.”

The couple spent about 8 to 10 weeks remodeling the space to fit their needs.

“We wanted more of an open concept and bright colors,” Nathan said.

As for the name, the couple decided to keep it for familiarity.

“Sorellina” means “little sister” in Italian. It seemed fitting for the salon’s purpose, but also fitting since Codi is a little sister.

“I have an older brother, and I’m the only girl sibling,” she said.

Her daughter, Sophia is also a little sister to 6-year-old Carson, who enjoys visiting the salon, too.

“I like that I can play … there’s lots of space,” he said.

Codi and Nathan designed the salon to be a kid-friendly place.

“We are all about the kids,” Codi said. “We want this to be a place parents can bring them.”

Hours are Monday through Wednesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kids are always welcome, but birthday parties can only be scheduled for weekends.

Right now, people can receive both a gel manicure and regular pedicure for $50. And an ongoing “Mommy and Me” special includes a manicure and pedicure for an adult, the same for a girl and a dessert tray for $90.

“Mommy and me, aunt and me, grandma and me, just an adult and a little girl,” Nathan Fisher explained.

Other specials include a free haircut, when someone gets a color and a buy two, get one free deal on take-home products.
