MANSFIELD — One of HGTV’s latest home renovation shows features a Mansfield business.
Home and Garden TV’s new series “Lakefront Bargain Hunt Renovation,” will air an episode that included Mansfield Brick & Supply, 320 North Diamond St., Saturday, May 6 at 9 p.m.
The series, which premiered Saturday, April 15, features families who purchase lakeside homes in hopes of turning them into vacation getaways.
Crews were filming at Mansfield Brick & Supply last summer for an episode featuring a couple renovating their lakefront home in Apple Valley, Ohio. Set up through a contractor, Quality Construction Services, the couple and a camera crew arrived in August. They needed stone for a fireplace and an outdoor project, too.
“We have both, so they could pick out both products in one place,” said Pete Anderson, of Mansfield Brick & Supply.
The stone for the fireplace was an easy choice. Anderson explained the duo picked the same stone used in the fireplace display featured in the showroom.
“A lot of people are doing remodels on their fireplaces like what they did,” Anderson said. “I think people see these ideas on TV shows like this and say I can do that … and it gives them a whole new look.”
He’s noticed that outside renovations are becoming more popular, too.
“People are willing to spend money on the outside,” Anderson said. “Instead of two folding chairs they want the bar, the island and the kitchen.”
For this couple, Mansfield Brick had to deliver the stone with less than 24-hour notice.
“They had a camera crew here and they said we want to tape this, this and this, so we had to have product on site within 24 hours, which is kind of crazy… not a traditional job,” Anderson said. “We can do it and have done it, but with that scale of a job, it’s not typical.”
He said the strangest part of the experience was how he’d have to redo and repeat things several times for the crew to get different camera angles.
“They’d say, ‘Stop. Now point to this,’” Anderson said. “And we had to do introductions three times.”
Anderson and his father, Mike Anderson were both included in the filming process.
Founded in 1981, Mansfield Brick & Supply was first located at 199 North Main St. Though it only started with one boom truck, the business grew beyond its location. In April 1997, it moved to a five-acre plot of land at 320 N. Diamond St., where it’s been ever since. It also has two more locations, one in Mount Vernon and one in Marion.
