Jeff "J.O." Smith

 59, of Mansfield passed away after an extended illness Monday, April 10, 2017 at his home.

Jeff was born May 11, 1957 in Mansfield, Ohio to Herbert Smith Jr. and Mary Jane (Cheape) Getts.

Jeff was a graduate of Galion High School. He was employed in retail auto parts as a salesman. He attended St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

Jeff was a loving son, brother and father. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting cars, listening to music especially rock and roll, car races, NASCAR, and was an avid storyteller. But, the joy of his life was his son, Austin, and he was blessed to enjoy the comfort and love of his son.

He is survived by his son, Austin L. Smith; his mother, Mary Jane Getts; his ex-wife, Michel Smith; two step-sons, Christopher Welch and Andrew Johnson; his sister, Shelley McNeal; a brother, Harry Smith; a sister-in-law, Beverly Smith; two nieces, Kristine McNeal and Abby Carbonell; two grandchildren, Liam Johnson and Kierstynn Welch; and his extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Smith Jr.; a brother, Herbert Smith III; and his grandparents.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd.
