ONTARIO — Two students were expelled and another suspended for eight days after Ontario Schools investigated an incident involving marijuana cookies last month.

Superintendent Lisa Carmichael reported Ashley K. Mays, 18, a senior at Ontario High School made and distributed adulterated food. Mays was expelled from the school.

Mays has been cited for “Adulterated food,” a misdemeanor of the first degree. Her hearing is scheduled to appear in court this week, Carmichael said.

A second student Carmichael referred to as Student B (due to age restrictions) was given an eight-day suspension. The student, also a senior was permitted to return to school, Monday, April 3. Carmichael said this student has no prior discipline record and has an excellent attendance record. Student B is also on track to graduate.

“Student B was honest and cooperative from the very beginning of the investigation through the expulsion hearing,” the superintendent said.

Student C, a sophomore purchased marijuana cookies, according to the school. That student served a 10-day external suspension from the school. Student C was expelled for the remainder of the 2017-2018 school year. If Student C is seen on any Ontario School District property, the student could be arrested and charged for trespassing or interfering with conduct of an educational institution.
