“Go as hard and as fast as long as you can.”
All the days planned by the Lord for Dale Crowl and Mitzi, his beloved dog, came to be Wednesday, March 29, 2017. He was 80 years old (and Mitzi was 18).
Born on Nov. 2, 1936 in Canton, Ohio to Theodore and Jesse (Mills) Crowl, Dale was the second of two children. He graduated from Madison High School in 1955 and had three children. Upon successfully completing an apprenticeship for tool and die, he worked for 36 years for GM, retiring at age 56 in 1993.
Dale was passionate about cars and motorcycles; he loved to ride with his GOLDWING friends making numerous trips across the United States. He traveled across the US, covering 48 states; his favorite place to ride was Arizona.
Dale was formerly active in the Mansfield Motorcycle club, serving as past president; a lifetime member of GWRRA, a co-founder of Mansfield Electronic Flyers and a member of the Johnny Appleseed Square Dancing Club.
During his retirement, he continued to keep busy fishing, repairing motorcycles, actually repairing anything that was broken, always helping others with projects, initiating a Friday riding dinner group, gathering with his Chapter B Goldwing friends every month and his Wednesday lunch buddies. He had a gift for anything mechanical. If it had a motor and tires, Dale was either restoring, racing or wrecking them!
An avid fan of NASCAR, he followed #88 and never lost his faith in the Cleveland Indians; following them since he was a young man. During the fall, you could find him glued to the OSU Buckeye football games.
A story-teller, Dale would tell story upon story for hours to anyone who would listen. He was fiercely loyal and very proud of his children and grandchildren. His grandsons recall making Pinewood Derby cars in the basement. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jacquelyn Crowl; children James (Debra) Crowl, Barbara (Michael) Wickham, Rick (Becky) Crowl; step-daughter Jocelyn Hofer; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a sister Mariel, of Painesville, Ohio.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents and step-son William Smith.
His family will receive friends on Monday, April 3, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Rose Hill Memorial Park, 3655 Wales Road NW, Massillon, Ohio, 44646 conducted by Celebrant Jerry Wilson.
Contributions in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association and the Richland County Humane Society may be made at the funeral home.
