Betty Ruth Burke

Betty Ruth Burke, 76, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from her Lexington home.

She was born April 10, 1940 to parents Walter and Minnie (Cartmill) Lore, in Portsmouth, one of 12 children. On Oct. 30, 1960, she married David K. Burke and they shared 42 wonderful years of marriage until he passed away in 2002. They are now together again.

Betty worked at Essex for over 10 years until retiring. She was an active member of Lexington Church of the Nazarene where in younger years she sang in the choir.

In spare time, she took pleasure in dinner dates with friends and spending time with her family. She loved soaking up the sunshine and looked forward to the annual Lore Family Reunion. She was an excellent cook and everyone loved her biscuits and gravy.

Betty kept a garden and enlisted the whole family’s help in canning green beans. She will be remembered as a sweet person with a smile that could light up a room.

Betty is survived by her son Brian Burke, of Lexington; daughter Robin Burke, of Mansfield; four grandchildren Amanda Keene, Melody Kash, Courtney McQuate and Heather Price; seven great-grandchildren including Hunter Burke, Madilyn Kash, Tessa Perry, Kaydon Price, and Guige Price; siblings Darrell (Wanda) Lore, George (MaryAnn) Lore, and Joyce (Harry) Oaks; along with nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Coty McQuate, and siblings Stan Lore, Stella LaDow, Mary Bender, Edward Lore, Sherman Lore, Anne, AltaMae Williams, and Edith Wilhite.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service honoring her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 1. Pastor Mark Bales will officiate and burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park near Lexington.

Contributions in her memory to the Lore Fund (please make checks payable to Sharon Phillips) may be made at her services.
