MANSFIELD — Susi Maiyer of Mansfield, an Ambassador of Hope for Shared Hope International, will be the speaker during a free lecture about human trafficking of women and children.
The Women’s Fund of the Richland County Foundation will host the presentation Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at 181 South Main Street, Mansfield.
Maiyer will show a documentary called “Shadow on the Heartland” which was produced locally by Gunther Meisse and Humanitarian Solutions.
After reading an article in Today’s Christian Women’s Magazine several years ago, Maiyer felt compelled to do something about the human trafficking of women and children, especially through sex trafficking. She has been working for the past nine years to spread awareness about this terrible crime.
She has provided education on the topic to area churches, agencies and schools as well as to all the seventh grade students at Mansfield Middle School.
The Women’s Fund of the Richland County Foundation recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. Since its inception the fund has awarded over $307,000 in grants including 29 scholarships to non-traditional female undergraduate students attending area colleges. The endowed fund was created in 1996 to promote philanthropy among women and to provide funding to programs to empower women and girls.
The lecture is free but seating is limited. RSVP to Stacie Shoemaker sshoemaker@rcfoundation.org or 419-525-3020.
