Truly from a special generation, Pappy Shuttlesworth was a hard-working and caring man. He enjoyed gardening, driving his John Deere tractor and 4-wheeler and would never pass up a good hand of Euchre. A Godly and family man, he never feared a hard day’s labor and he kept his family on their toes even at the age of 92 with his ornery personality and character. He was often seen frequenting area restaurants to socialize with his friends.

James Harold Shuttlesworth passed away Saturday evening, Jan. 14, 2017 in Country Meadow Care Center in Bellville.

He was born in Carolina, West Virginia, on Aug. 20, 1924 to Basil and Irene (Millan) Shuttlesworth. At the age of 17, he enlisted with the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in 1946.

On Dec. 14, 1946 he married the love of his life, Doris Morrison and worked in the coal mines. In 1948 they moved to Ohio to find work and to raise their two children Vickie and John.

Pappy was a tool and die maker and retired from Neer Manufacturing in 1986. During his retirement he enjoyed being active and visiting with family and friends. His mind was very sharp and he loved to share stories about his time in the Navy and his adventures from the hills and hollars of West Virginia and Ohio.

Although he will be greatly missed, he is rejoicing in heaven with his sweetie which is what he had been longing for since her passing in 2008.

James is survived by his children Vickie Moran (Robert) and John Shuttlesworth, both from Johnsville; grandchildren Michael (Tammy) Moran and Mary Moran Roush, both of Johnsville; great grandchildren Robert Moran of West Salem, Mackenzie Taylor and Jordyn Roush, of Johnsville; and great, great grandchild Kenneth Lawhorn, of Johnsville, as well as a multitude of special family members and friends that were very dear to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Irene and stepfather who was his father at heart, Arthur Hopkins; his wife Doris; brother Basil; son-in-law Robert Moran and numerous relatives.

An intimate memorial will be held at a later date. Snyder Funeral homes is handling arrangements for the family.
