Ellen L. Stroup, 78, of Galion passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Ohio State Hospitals East in Columbus.
Born February 27, 1938 in Galion, she was the daughter of Clarence “Lefty” and Myrtle B. (Cress) McClurg. She married John D. Stroup, II on April 12, 1985 and he preceded her on May 31, 2002.
Ellen attended Iberia Schools and bartended for 20 years at American Legion Scarbrough Post 243. She previously worked at the former Caleb V. Smith Company, North Electric Company, AMVETS 30, Palladium Restaurant and PECO II. Ellen was a member of American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 and VFW Post 4329. She enjoyed gardening, camping and was an avid bowler. Ellen especially loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by children Richard McCallister of Galion and Sherry (Johnny) Thomas of Galion; grandchildren Shalea Penrod, Taustin Greanya and Colten Skaggs; five great grandchildren and sister Evelyn (Fred) Shifley of Galion.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by daughter Christine McCallister; son Jeffrey McDonnell and former husband Richard McCallister.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 21 with Rev. Joe Stafford officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Crestline.
