COLUMBUS — The St. Peter’s and Lexington boys basketball teams were rated among the top 10 schools in their respective divisions when the AP rankings were released on Monday night.

The Spartans are the highest-ranked team, checking in at No. 4 in Division IV. Joe Jakubick’s squad is 11-2 this season, with its only losses coming to Ontario and Canton Central Catholic.

St. Peter’s collected 135 points in the poll, including a first-place vote. Undefeated McDonald (12-0) sits atop the Division IV rankings with 215 points, while Defiance Ayersville (9-0) is second with 184 points and Grove City Christian 11-1 is third at 150 points.

The Spartans return to action Friday night against Loudonville at the Franciscan Activity Center in Mansfield.

In Division II, the Minutemen (11-1) are ranked No. 8 in the state. Coach Scott Hamilton’s team has suffered just one loss this season, to Wooster. The undefeated Generals are No. 9 in the Division I poll.

Trotwood Madison (9-0) rules the Division II rankings with 234 points and 13 first-place votes, followed by Upper Sandusky (13-0) at No. 2 with 218 points and 12 first-place votes. Columbus South is third (12-0), with Dayton Dunbar (9-1) and Ottawa-Glandorf (11-1) tied for fourth. McArthur Vinton County (11-) is sixth and Franklin (10-1) is seventh with 55 points.

Lexington earned 46 points in the balloting. The Minutemen host Madison tonight in an Ohio Cardinal Conference clash.

The AP poll is a statewide ballot tabulated from weekly voting by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.
