MANSFIELD — Looking for something to do this winter?

Prospect Park now has an ice skating rink available for use (weather dependent).

The Mansfield Parks Department was putting the finishing touches on the 44-by-60-foot-rink Thursday. The rink is located at the corner of Gilbert and Wolfe avenues.

Mark Abrams, parks department manager, said several people have expressed interest in ice skating, nostalgically recalling when people used to ice skate at Prospect, Johns, and John Todd parks in the past.

Prospect Park has adequate room to accommodate the new rink, Abrams said. Plus, the nearby streetlights will allow people to skate in the evening.

“It just seemed like a natural fit because there was skating there before and people traditionally have gone there,” he said.

The rink is portable, so the parks department does have the ability to move it to a new location in the future if need be.

The $5,000 rink was purchased with park funds.

Users will need to provide their own skates in order to ice skate.
