John Baptist Martinuzzi, age 76, of Shelby, died Wednesday December 28, 2016 at OhioHealth Shelby Hospital.
He was born March 20, 1940 in the Bronx, New York the son of the late Edward and Maria (Vidoni) Martinuzzi. John was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the active reserves for 6 years. On October 13, 1973 he married Anna Schmitt and they began their life together. John worked as a communication technician for Verizon working in the Bronx, Queens, and Manhattan, retiring in 1990.
John was a life member of Telephone Pioneers and was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby. He was devoted to his Catholic faith and his family. He enjoyed ballet, opera and classical music. After John and Ann moved to Shelby in 2012 to be closer to their daughter, Theresa, and her family, this city boy was proud to have bought a tractor and loved mowing his lawn.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Anna (Schmitt) Martinuzzi of Shelby; 3 daughters: Maryann (Greivin) Elizondo of Parlin, NJ, Theresa (Scott) Krietemeyer of Shelby, Kathryn (Jeremy) Fucile of Randolph, MA; 8 grandchildren: Danielle, Lauren, Sara, and Emma Krietemeyer, Gabriel and Nathaniel King, Sophia Elizondo, and Elodie Fucile; a brother: Edward Martinuzzi of Patchogue, NY; 2 sisters: Mary Jane Martinuzzi of New York, NY and Catherine Martinuzzi of Patchogue, NY.
Friends and family are welcome on Monday, Jan2,. 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where the rosary will be recited at 6:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 29 West Street, Shelby with Father Chris Mileski officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail following mass. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial expressions may be made to the church.
