ASHLAND — Ashland University’s football team is 19th in the final American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches’ Top 25 poll, released on Monday (Dec. 19) afternoon.
In 2016, the Eagles were 9-2 overall and 7-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, winning the GLIAC South Division championship. Ashland was the only team in the final regular-season AFCA poll to not qualify for the D-II postseason, and is the only team in the season-ending AFCA poll not to go to the playoffs.
Since the AFCA poll began in 2000, the 2016 campaign is the first time that Ashland was ranked each week from the preseason to the end of the season.
