MANSFIELD  — With Christmas just two weeks away, Mother Nature is raising people’s hopes for a white Christmas with an early preview.

As snow has started to fall throughout the day Sunday, the National Weather Service is warning that more is on the way.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory that is in effect until 4 a.m. Monday.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow is issued when moderate amounts of accumulating snow will cause travel difficulties. Drivers are warned to be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibility and to use caution while driving.

Snow is expected to continue through late Sunday night, with 3 to 5 inches accumulating. Overnight, the snow is expected to mix with or change to rain overnight.

Winds are from the south at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph throughout the day. Temperatures are in the low 20s and expected to rise into the 30s by early Sunday night.

Monday, the forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of snow in the morning with a high around 36. Monday night temperatures are expected to fall into the low 20s. There’s a 20 percent chance of snow Tuesday with temperatures near 30 and lows in the teens Tuesday night as a cold front moves into the area.

Very cold arctic air is expected to spread over the area Wednesday through Friday, bringing windchill readings as low as minus-10 to minus-15 degrees.
