BUCYRUS — Adrian Gallegos, 25, pled not guilty during his arraignment this week on charges that prompted the judge to post a $1 million bond.

Gallegos’s arrest was followed by an incident on Saturday, Nov. 19 where he allegedly passed a note to a Bucyrus CVS Pharmacy cashier that indicated he had a bomb. The note also demanded drugs, Xanax and three types of Clonazepam, according to Crawford County Prosecutor Matt Crall.

The pharmaceutical drug Xanax is prescribed to individuals suffering from anxiety and panic disorders. Clonazepam is used to prevent and control seizures. According to WebMD, the drugs belong to a class of drugs called benzodiazepines, which produce a calming effect on the brain and nervous system.

“The pharmacy had to be evacuated, per their protocol, whenever they’re told there’s a bomb,” Crall said.

According to Bucyrus Police records, Gallegos was arrested the day of the incident at 1 p.m. Crall said Gallegos’s wallet, which contained his identification, was recovered at the pharmacy. Law enforcement did not recover the alleged bomb.

Gallegos has been charged with aggravated robbery, inducing panic and four counts of drug possession. The prescription drugs were found in his home after detectives procured a search warrant.

Additional charges may include drug trafficking. However, the evidence recovered does not suggest drug trafficking at this point, Crall said.

“But that’s something that could change,” he said. “Aggravated robbery is much more serious of a charge (than drug trafficking).”

Normally, Crall said, finding the prescription drugs would lead to misdemeanors, but Gallegos had a prior drug conviction. He noted Gallegos has had run-ins with the law in Bucyrus since 2011, when he pled guilty to being in possession of a concealed weapon.

According to court records, Gallegos was charged with theft and drug related charges in a 2012 incident. He was charged with criminal trespassing in 2014, too. Also, in 2014, he was charged with an OVI, driving without a license and failure to control a vehicle.

Gallegos received a domestic violence charge in 2015. He remains incarcerated at the Crawford County jail. His next court appearance has not yet been scheduled.
