MANSFIELD — The adults were obviously invested in the national election last week, so why not their children?

That was the theme in a number of classrooms at St. Peter’s Schools, too.

In conjunction with Election Day on Tuesday, the kindergarten students celebrated by casting their ballots after hearing the story “Duck for President.” They listened to both sides debate about who could run the farm in a better manner and each student then took a turn in the voting booth.

The students in Miss Johnson’s class decided in favor of Farmer Brown, 11 votes to 7.

The Montessori ran a very important campaign. After teaching the concepts of citizenship, respect, democracy, and good sportsmanship (winning with grace and losing with strength), they proceeded to run their campaigns.

Mrs. Rastorfer and Mrs. Brewer chose to endorse PLAIN DONUTS and Mrs. Beres rallied support for GLAZED. Students went to the polls and placed their choice upon a ballot. When the results came in and . . . they ALL enjoyed sticky sweet treats for snack.

Their emphasis to the students was that while not everyone chose the winner, they all need to respect the process.
