C. David Robinson

C. David Robinson, 74, of Mansfield, died Sunday, September 18, 2016 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.

Born Sept. 23, 1941 in Mansfield, he was the son of Charles E. and Lois (Willson) Robinson.

David was a 1959 graduate of Mansfield Senior where he was Valedictorian, a 1963 graduate of Wittenburg University in Springfield, Ohio and a 1964 graduate of Virginia Polytech University in Blacksburg, Virginia.

He started teaching at the Mansfield Adult Education in 1972 and then went on to serve as the GED test giver until 2016. He was also a member of the Ohio National Guard and was first in class of the 1968 Officer Candidate School, retiring in 2001 from the guard as a full Colonel.

He was active in the scouts, and was a member of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts earning his Eagle Award. He then served as an assistant Scout Master of Troop 118 for 37 years where he received the Silver Beaver Award.

David also served as a Mansfield City Councilman in the 1st and 7th Wards from 1984 to 1987, 1989 to 1993 and 1995 to 2007 as a Republican. A generous person, he loved his nieces and nephews dearly and enjoyed Tuesday night dinners with his family.

He is survived by a brother, Larry (Minerva) Robinson, of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Sandra (Craig) Richardson, of Mansfield; nieces and nephews, Scott (Jane) Robinson, of Columbus, Ohio, Bryan (Marcia) Robinson, of Goshen, Kentucky, Jeff (Theresa) Robinson, of Columbus, Ohio, Victoria (Chad) Triplett, of Mansfield and Kathryn (Eric) Calhoun, of Dublin, Ohio; and many great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Robinson.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2016 at the funeral home conducted by Rector Emeritus David D. Sipes. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
